It is with regret that l advise all personnel that Retired Senior Firefighter Ken CLINKABERRY (Reg No: 654) passed away peacefully, at his home, on Saturday 7 September.
Ken, or “Colonel” as he was more commonly known, joined the MFB on the 15 December 1950 and retired on 20 February 1987 after serving the Brigade and community for more than 36 years. Records indicate that after his initial training at FS 1, Ken moved out West where he served at FS 47, FS 44, FS 45, FS 42 and FS 51. He later returned to FS 1 where he worked in the old Communications Centre before returning to FS 51 from where he retired.
Ken was always a strong campaigner for Firefighters conditions and his efforts in this area were recognised when the United Firefighters Union awarded him a Life Membership. Not content to simply retire from the Brigade, Ken went on to become a Foundation Member of the Retired Firefighters Association.
