It is with regret that l advise all personnel that Retired Station Officer Des PENMAN (Reg. No. 815) passed away, after a lengthy battle with illness, on Wednesday 28th May at Rushworth.
Des joined the MFB on 19th November 1951 and retired on 9th January 1987 after more than 35 years of dedicated service to the Brigade and the community.
After his initial training at FS 1 Des moved out of Headquarters and over the years served at the old FS 36 (Sandringham), the old FS 34 (Moorabbin) FS 35, FS 25, the old FS 29 (Glenhuntly) and the Fire Protection Division.
The MFB has a proud tradition of members following in the footsteps of their family and Des’s son, retired Leading Firefighter Darryl Penman, not only followed his father but was actually on shift with him at the old FS 29.
Prayers for the repose of Des’s soul will be offered at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Phillips Street, Rushworth on MONDAY 2nd June commencing at 1300 hours.
