It is with great regret that I inform everyone of the passing of Retired Senior Firefighter Wayne Dellamarta (Reg No 2417) .
Wayne who was known affectionately as “Della”, passed away with his wife Sheena by his side at the Austin Hospital just before midnight on Friday 18 May 2012 after his life support system was disconnected approximately 12 hours earlier.
Della was admitted to the Austin on Monday morning after collapsing at home and being resuscitated by S.O Dave Harris and the crew of 13″D” and Ambulance Victoria. Wayne had been recovering from the effects of oesophageal cancer and complications after surgery in December 2010.
Wayne joined the Brigade on 16 February 1968 and retired on 14 October 1993 after serving the Brigade and the community for more than 25 years. Always a “B” Platoon man, Wayne was initially stationed at FS 10 before serving at FS 1, FS 9 (North Fitzroy), FS 2 and FS 48 ( North Melbourne). Later in his career he transferred to FS 4 where he served for many years before returning to Headquarters, “B” Platoon, where he was the Chief’s Driver until his retirement.
For all of those who knew Della, he will always be remembered as “A Good Bloke”.
