It is with regret that I advise all personnel that Retired Station Officer Bill TOMAN (Reg No 791) passed away peacefully on the 15th April 2012 after a short period of illness.
Bill joined the MFB on 12 October 1951 and retired on 15 December 1983 after serving the Brigade and the Community for over 32 years.
After serving at FS 1, Bill served variously at the former Fire Stations of 9 ( North Fitzroy), 2 ( William Street), 10 ( Hoddle Street) before transferring to Northern District where he served at the old FS 15 (Ivanhoe), FS 14 (Rosanna) and FS 12.
In the true fire service “family” tradition, Bill’s son Stephen joined the Special Service Department (now FES) where he still works as the Inventory Controller. and his son in law is retired Commander Jim Leigh.
