It is with deepest sympathy and respect that l advise all personnel that, after a prolonged battle with illness, retired District Officer Don Cameron (Reg: 1128) passed away peacefully on Tuesday 26 March. Don was farewelled, lovingly surrounded by family and close friends.
Don, or “Silver” as he was most commonly known, joined the MFB on 31 December 1954 and retired on 10 July 1987 after almost 33 years of service to the Brigade and the community. Don had a long and distinguished career included service as an SSO on A Platoon, then D.O. on C Platoon, finishing his career as a D.O. in the Communications Centre. Don maintained contact within the organisation as a member of the Retired Fire Fighters Association and a few years ago became an Employee Support Program Peer, providing emotional and wellbeing support to both retired and current personnel.
The MFB has a proud tradition of members following in the footsteps of their family and Don’s family were no exception with his son SFF Stephen Crocker (FS 11 C), his daughter Sue (a former Communications Centre Operator) and Sue’s husband SO Mal Owen (FS 16 C) carrying on this tradition.
He is deeply respected and will be fondly remembered by those who were lucky to work with this gentleman.
