It is with regret that l advise all personnel that Retired Senior Fireman Ern TAMME (Reg No 199) passed away on 17 February following a period of illness.
Ern joined the MFB on the 16 August 1946 and retired on 12 October 1979 after 33 years of dedicated service to the Brigade, the community and his fellow firefighters .
Records indicate that after his initial training at FS 1 Ern transferred to FS 38. After seven years there he moved out to Eastern District where he was stationed at FS 23, FS 20, FS 21, FS 26 and finally to FS 27 from where he retired.
Ern committed himself to protecting and improving award conditions for firefighters and, at various times, was Assistant Secretary and Vice President of the United Firefighters Union; this service to the Union was recognised when he was awarded a Life Membership.
